Tips on How HR Professionals Can Successfully Engage With Their Other Management Teams
So many times, we hear from our HR friends, “Why does everyone seem to dislike HR so much?”
Dear Operations, Sales, and other Management Partners:
Your HR Team can be your best friends! HR is not the “party pooper” in the crowd. Please invite us to the parties again.
While it is true that HR Folks tend to focus on compliance, we are so much more. We as HR professionals need to be good listeners, problem solvers and team players. So, how do we accomplish this?
- Get involved! Sit in on another department’s meeting, learn about the products and/or services your organization provides. This will allow you to make informed decisions on how you can help them.
- Shadow a department head in another department, learn what they go through on a typical day, an informed partner is a great partner. A mentorship program is a great benefit for both the employer and employee.
- Show them you bring more to the table than just compliance. Be more than the person they call when there is an employee relations issue.
- Offer solid solutions, instead of saying, “No, but”, try to say “Yes, and!” from time to time.
- Keep an open door and an open mind. Embrace inclusion and celebrate diversity!
